CHRISTmas story: the process

thus starts a series an occasional series of posts about the album. I’m titling them “CHRISTmas story” because of the album title – “It SHOULD be called CHRISTmas”.  The recordingis progressing so nicely even though I am TIRED! As I type this it’s the morning after the penultimate tracking session and my ‘nerves’ about the album have calmed down a bit, though it is still a long road before we know how good it’s going to be.

I tell people that recording is like buck naked grocery shopping – you hear absolutely everything! Even more so when where you are recording has excellent (VERY expensive) microphones. Last night we were recording the cello parts, and Joey Stuckey ( producer and studio owner, not to mention friend) comes over the headphones and says to me , “You need to take your shoes off”.

Apparently my relatively new tennis shoes had a squeak in them. So we recorded in sock feet last night.

At one point Vadim, the cellist, got into what he was playing and starting tapping his foot. In the MICS it sounded like someone pounding on a door.

More stories later!
