More MIXTURE news – and why I keep writing about it!

MIXTURE is Joey Stuckey’s Jazz Guitar album that was released in the Summer and Fall of 2012, complete with a CD release party down at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. I keep posting news about it because I am excited about the quality of the album – Joey is a good friend – and also because I was co-everything on the album

We co-wrote the songs, co-engineered the album, co-produced it, and I did all the keyboard work [pianos, synths, etc] on the album.

We also shot some videos – called the MIXTUREcast – where we talk about each tune just before we were mixing it. You can get the inside story about each tune, along with a healthy dose of bad puns and creative humor!

The MIXTURE blog also has an ALL THE TUNES page, where you can get links to all the resources for each tune, including videos shot while recording the tune, the MIXTUREcast episode where we discuss the tune, etc.

Here are some reviews and news about MIXTURE – each link opens in a new window:

  • The album recently debuted at #34 on the CMJ Jazz Top 40 chart.
  • ImprovijazzNation had a good review. “After a smashing guitar intro on the opener, “We’ll See“, there are snatches of vocals that are purely psychedelic!
  • THIS IS BOOK’S MUSIC reviewed MIXTURE in November 2012: “For a bit of luxurious jazz in your late nights or early morning, you may want to check out the latest album from guitarist Joey Stuckey. Mixture (Senate) is a 10-track collection of laid back jazz, smooth if you will but not a cheesy smooth.”
  • @CriticalJazz [Where Taste is subjective but tone deaf lasts forever] says that “Musical frame of reference here? While I prefer to stay away from these as they tend to pigeon hole an artist when it comes to Stuckey think Steve Morse meets Jeff Beck but Stuckey has the resume to back me up having  shared a stage with the likes of Ted Nugent, Wet Willie and the B-52’s. Stuckey is that rare artist that can touch your heart and set your hair on fire simultaneously.
  • Even a Dutch magazine reviewed MIXTURE. HERE’S A LINK to an English translation of the page. “Should you be looking for the perfect background music for a restaurant, or even better in your home during a dinner with musical friends, then this “Mixture” Joey Stuckey perhaps is something for you.  The blind jazz guitarist did for this album appeal the master key player Tom Rule and the equally gifted percussionists Miguel Castro and Marcus Reddick.” [Translated by Google]

If you haven’t heard the album, swing over to CD Baby or iTunes and take a listen. Contact your local radio station and ask them to play it – we are on the charts now!
