I played last night with the fabulous Boudleaux Allen over in Dublin’s IceHouse – a new venue that Gil Gillis has opened up. It’s a cool place (pun intended, of course!) that is a combination photography gallery, recording studio, performing space, and event venue.
Gil and the construction team left a lot of the old brick walls bare, so the look of the place (and the acoustics) is nice!
Typical of a small town, Gil does a lot of different ‘jobs’ – he does video production, audio production (has your standard Pro Tools setup plus some really nice mics and preamps), photography, and now the gallery and venue.
Bonus for me was a chance to play a 1950’s era Hammond C3 in excellent shape, complete with a leslie. I setup my Roland RD700sx in an L-configuration and covered bass with my left hand on the Roland while switching between the C3 and the Roland for lead and comping. A lot of fun, plus the pleasure of playing with Boudleaux (who is phenomenal and a VERY tasty player.)
